Whether you need protection from COVID-19, toxic air pollution, itchy pollen, to stay away from bacteria or simply want to be at your very best, our masks will empower you to breathe clean and healthy air.
A big misconception we often see and hear from friends, family and media is that face masks are used to prevent sick people from spreading infection. This assumes that the mask filters outflowing air. In reality, most masks filter inflowing air so it would be more accurate to say that face masks are used to prevent the wearer from getting an infection. See our overview on different types of masks if you want to learn more.
Ecomasks help to protect both the wearer and people in proximity of the wearer from microscopic particles. This is because we ensure an optimal fit (see sizing) and do not offer a valve.
Non-valved masks are more effective than valved masks when in proximity of other people, in order to protect the mask wearer and others in the environment. This is because non-valved masks filter inflow and outflow of microscopic particles.
Reusable masks also contribute to the protection of the planet of the future.
Ecomask recommends hand washing your mask once per week. Rinse outer and inner layers with warm water, add a small amount of liquid soap and gently rub. Rinse again and hang to fully dry before storage or use.
Masks can also be machine washed but we do not recommend machine drying.
Sunlight exposure is a great way to keep your mask clean and fresh. Do not put into dryer.
Cleaning will not decrease the mask effectiveness as long as the mask in not damaged in the process. If any part or assembly of the mask is damaged, or if a good seal is not achievable, discard the mask.
The protection against viruses depends on the particle size of the aerosols containing infectious viruses. The sizes of these virus-containing particles differ from just the naked virus diameter (0,02–0,03 µm) to the sizes of the carrier particles. According to a study of the influenza virus, the virus-containing particles vary largely in size and 5% of the particles where larger than 4 µm, 75.5% was 1–4 µm and 19.5% smaller 1 µm. In another study of FMDV, 65–71% of the virus-containing particles were over 6 µm in diameter, 19–24% was 3 - 6 µm and 10–11% were under 3 µm.
The ecomask filter is tested and certified for 98% protection against particles down to the size of 0.3µm and because of this, the mask will protect you against virus-containing particles that are larger than 0.3µm. However, we cannot guarantee full safety and protection against viruses.
We offer 5 size options which cover adults and children. We have defined two options for determining how to choose your face mask size. See our guide here.
When you breathe wearing an ecomask, air passes through five layers of protection and an FFP2 certified filter before it reaches your lungs. Each layer plays an important role and filters particles of different sizes.
Layer 1 - Durable outer filter wrapping with a soft touch finish made from Econyl.
Layer 2 - Electro charged PP Spunbond. Filters gases and reduces odor.
Layer 3 - PA Nanofiber. Filters larger PM10, pollen and other allergens.
Layer 4 - PET Spunbond. Filters smaller PM2.5, dust and bacteria.
Layer 5 - Inside filter wrapping made from 100% Recycled PET with skin-friendly finish.
The multi-layer filter technology is tested in a state of the art laboratory in Germany. You can see our technical data sheet here.
We understand that this is a confusing topic. What kind of mask do you need? What does all the jargon mean? We would like to refer you to the following resources to learn more: https://fastlifehacks.com/n95-vs-ffp/
The particle and filter layers are sewn into the middle layers of the mask and are not replaceable.
The life of your mask will depend on how much you wear it and how well you care for it. If you notice any odor or taste while wearing your mask that means the filter needs to be cleaned.
We recommend to replace your mask every 3 months. If any part or assembly of the mask is damaged, or if a good seal is not achievable, discard the mask.

When international orders reach their destination country/region, they may be subject to customs clearance procedures, which can cause delays beyond original delivery estimates.
We are currently aware of delays via the USPS due to COVID-19 which may extend delivery time. This is outside of our control and we appreciate your patience.
Your privacy is important to us, and we care about how your order information is used and shared. We would like customers who are sending or receiving products via international shipping to be aware that cross-border shipments are subject to inspection, and may be opened by customs authorities.
We provide certain order, shipment, and product information (such as description) to our international carriers, and this information may be communicated by the carriers to customs authorities to facilitate customs clearance and comply with local laws.
If you refuse a shipment from Ecomask, you are responsible for the original shipping charges, any import fees that are incurred on the package, and the cost of returning the package to Ecomask. This amount will be deducted from your merchandise refund.
Ecomask complies with specific shipping restrictions determined by international trading regulations. If your shipping destination is one of the restricted countries for our product, you will not be able to proceed. If you wish to continue with the purchase, you will need to change the destination address.
Items in your order may be subject to taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country ("Import Fees"). The recipient of the shipment is the importer of record in the destination country and is responsible for all Import Fees.
With respect to each item for which Import Fees have been calculated, you authorize Ecomask to designate a carrier ("Designated Carrier") to act as your agent with the relevant customs and tax authorities in the destination country, to clear your merchandise, process and remit your actual Import Fees for such item.
"Import Fees Deposit" represents an estimate of the Import Fees that will be levied on the items in your order. By placing your order, you agree to allow Ecomask to collect the Import Fees Deposit for the applicable items in your order. The deposit will be used, on your behalf, to reimburse the Designated Carriers for the import fees that they have paid on your behalf to the appropriate authorities of the destination country.
You further agree that the Designated Carriers may disclose to Ecomask the amount of actual Import Fees levied on the item you have purchased from Ecomask ("Actual Import Fees"). In the event that the Import Fees Deposit collected exceeds the Actual Import Fees, Ecomask will refund the difference to you.
In the case of gifts or other purchases made on behalf of another recipient, you also agree to grant the foregoing authorizations on behalf of the recipient designated in your order.
To obtain details regarding the Actual Import Fees, or to obtain documentation or receipts in connection with customs clearance, you may contact the Carrier specified in your shipment confirmation e-mail.
These terms and conditions are in addition to the standard Conditions of Use of the Ecomask website. Pursuant to those terms, title and risk of loss for the items transfer to the recipient upon delivery to the common carrier.
If you refuse a shipment from Ecomask, you are responsible for the original shipping charges, any Import Fees that are incurred on the package, and the cost of returning the package to Ecomask. This amount will be deducted from your merchandise refund. Please email your shipping and handling questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If an import fees deposit is not available to you for any reason, Import Fees must be paid by the person receiving the package when it reaches its destination.
Ecomask is a hygienic product and can not normally be returned.
We discourage “change of mind” returns due to the environmental impact of double shipping, wasted packaging and damaged returns. Unfortunately, when we return online purchases, they don’t just automatically go back on the shelf: one study found that 84% of returned garments are burnt or sent to landfill.
If you are not satisfied with your ecomask, please email us at email@example.com with the following information and we will try our best to help you on a case-by-case basis:
Have you opened the package?
Which product(s) do you wish to return?
Reason for return?
Things to consider:
1. Merchandise must be returned within 30 days.
2. Merchandise must not be worn, altered, or washed.
3. Merchandise must have all tags attached and be returned in original packaging.
4. Shipping and handling charges are not refundable. Packages that arrive COD may be denied, or the COD amount may be deducted from your return.
5. Final Sale items may not be returned.
6. Ecomask monitors account activity and reserves the right to refuse transactions, assess fees, and/or close accounts based on order or returns behavior.
If you are eligible for a refund, payment will be made after goods are returned.
Once an order has been placed, it cannot be cancelled.
While we try to avoid any mistakes, sometimes they happen. If you have received the wrong items or any damaged items, please email us right away at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will act accordingly.
Think of this as the ingredients list. Ecomask is made as safe as possible for humans and the environment. We certify that there are no banned chemicals used.
Econyl is used on the outer layer and trim. Econyl regenerated nylon is a high quality material which comes in part from fishing nets. It can be endlessly regenerated. This is different from recycling which usually requires new virgin materials and a loss of quality with each re-cycle. Econyl reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with the material from oil.
A note on color and dye: Econyl is solution dyed yarn. The dye is added in the polymers before the fibre is extruded. If you were to cut a section of the yarn, not only would the outside be colored as in yarns dyed after extrusion, but the inside would also be colored. It is nearly impossible to fade.
All colors are created in the most sustainable way with significantly less water use than traditional methods and no banned or harmful chemicals. All the colors in the range, support the Cradle to Cradle certification.
100% Recycled Polyester (rPET) is used on the inner layer which is in contact with your face. This material is made from recycled plastic bottles. By turning waste into fabrics we are able to keep from them from landfills and oceans. To give an example, five soda bottles yield enough fiber for one extra large T-shirt. We chose it for the inner surface layer on the face because it’s soft on the skin and offers superior breathability. But here’s the biggest factor: It doesn’t absorb as much moisture from your breath as compared to other materials which prevents bacteria growth.
FFP2 certified filter. Between the Econyl and 100% rPET layers is a 3 layer sewn-in-place filter which cannot be replaced. This means the entire mask construction is 5 layers. The filter itself is made from PP Spunbond, PA Nanofiber, PET Spunbond and PUR adhesive. Please refer to our technical data for more details on the filter.
An aluminum nose band is tucked into the top seam of the mask to help the shape conform to your face. This prevents annoying things like glasses fogging & practical things like air flowing around the filter.
Your package most likely will arrive in a compostable mailer made by wastebased. We chose this product after weighing the pros and cons of several options. Ultimately we decided that this option would allow us to leave the smallest footprint. This is a carbon negative product.
Inside of the mailer your ecomask will be lovingly packed in recycled paper by noissue. For every order we make, they plant trees in areas of need.
If possible, re-use it as many times as you can before disposing of it. You could:
Use it again to mail something (like sending your mask back to us at the end of it’s life). Our packaging comes with two adhesive strips to make this even easier;
Use it again as packaging for something else (you can even flip it inside out);
Cut it up and use it as weed matting in your garden;
Cut it up and use it to grow seedlings (it’s non-toxic!);
Use it to carry or store green waste.
Once the mailer has reached the end of its useful life, the best way to dispose of it is to compost it. It’s home compostable and will break down in a normal compost bin in about 6 months. Remove any labels (unless you’re sure that they’re also compostable), sticky tape and the recyclable plastic backing of any adhesive strips that remain and throw it into a compost bin to start the process!
If you don’t have access to a compost bin, you can also dispose of the mailer in a municipal composting facility or with food waste. Please don’t try to recycle it. Like most compostable items, it’s not recyclable and will have to be removed from the recycling stream.
When you are ready to replace your ecomask, please send it back to our manufacturer by mail:
Robert-Bosch-Straße 20 72186 Empfingen, Germany
Ecomasks will be disassembled into their basic elements so that each component can be recycled. If you still have your compostable mailer you can return it to us directly in the packaging.
This is a super important question to us. We do not have the answer yet as we are just getting started, but we feel that in the spirit of transparency it's better to admit what we don't know than to ignore this topic. We are committed to calculating and publishing our carbon footprint within the first 3 months of our launch.
